It was not an easy ride from the start, to be honest. The notorious Texas heat eventually broke down the barrels of their first batch, but the spirit at Garrison Brothers was stronger and would not break. At Garrison Bros., they take great pride in their products, and the barrels that are utilized today are specially crafted with staves thick enough to withstand the heat.

And with good reason. The list of honors is extensive; in 2020 alone, it included Double Gold and the Innovation Award at the Spirits International Prestige Awards, Silver and Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and more. There were lines outside the distillery when they introduced their renowned Cowboy Bourbon, waiting to receive a bottle.

In addition to being prepared using their award-winning Small Batch Bourbon Best Whiskey, which is then infused with Burleson’s Texas Wildflower Honey, HoneyDew is the third experimental in a long line of bourbons. Their Master Distiller, Donnis Todd, took discarded bourbon barrels, sliced them into little wooden cubes, and dipped them in honey. After being completely submerged, the bourbon was placed inside a stainless-steel tank and let seven months to gradually absorb all of the tastes of the honey.

This honey-infused Texas bourbon, bottled at 80 proof, is a first for the company, according to Todd, and may be their only release. This makes it a highly limited edition, with only 3,700 bottles made. He believes that most men will purchase it for their partners or spouses, but they will ultimately sip it themselves.

It should come as no surprise, as Dan Garrison describes it as a “magical nectar” that is light, delicate, soothing, and floral—ideal for getting you through a long, hot summer. However, as HoneyDew is also a highly regarded whiskey and won the Gold North American whiskey and Whiskey Competition Prize in 2020, it should not be dismissed lightly.

The Texas Hill Country’s Garrison Brothers Distillery was established in 2005 and is located on a rolling property. The distillery is Texas’s oldest legally operating whiskey distillery. Owner of the distillery Dan Garrison says, “Like everything in the Lone Star State, our dreams were big from the start.” “Our goal was to create the greatest bourbon that had ever been produced, not just any old bourbon.”

Bourbon is one of the quintessential American products; while it is primarily made in Kentucky, it may be manufactured anywhere in the country.
